Reading from Ovid's Metamorphoses

The lautten compagney BERLIN is one of the most renowned Early Music orchestras. With concerts, opera performances and crossover projects, it has put its own unique stamp on the musical landscape for over forty years; the reward has been a large, steadfastly loyal audience throughout Germany and worldwide, thanks to their international tours as guest performers. The literary musical programme Il pianto della Madonna – planctus Mariae was developed in cooperation with Corinna Harfouch, one of Germany's most important stage and film actors.

Ovid's Metamorphoses, with their stories of Daedalus and Icarus, Orpheus, Europa or Narcissus, belong to the European cultural canon. The wide range of psychologically profound and subtle scenarios is about nothing less than a mythology that covers the entire timespan between the creation of the world and Ovid's times. With Hermann Heiser's new translation of the entire work into German in prose, it is now available in a fluent, contemporary narrative language that once again illustrates the eternal topicality of this classic of world literature. Corinna Harfouch's reading of the story of Phaeton, which is about the disruption of the world's natural course caused by human hubris, is juxtaposed with Monteverdi's captivating, powerful madrigals.
