Picasso is Picasso is Picasso

from Gertrude Stein's Picasso
and Marty Martin's 'Gertrude Stein –
Gertrude Stein – Gertrude Stein'
read by Imogen Kogge

arranged by Gerhard Ahrens

In the texts she wrote from 1909 to 1938, the American author Gertrude Stein talks about her many years of friendship with Pablo Picasso, who painted an iconic picture of her soon after it began in Paris in 1905/06. The authentic texts are accompanied by scenes from Stein's fictitious monologue written by Marty Martin.

Gertrude Stein championed modern art not only as a collector but also transferred the techniques of cubism to her writing, which elevated her to the status of an icon of modern literature in the first half of the 20th century as a cubist author. Her Paris salon in the Rue de Fleurus where Picasso, Braque and Matisse, for example, met regularly was the hub of the European avant-garde.
