On Germany's Culture and Media Policy
at the Federal Level
Wolfram Weimer is a renowned journalist and publisher who was the chief editor of Focus magazine, for example, as well as the founder and editor-in-chief of the political magazine Cicero before he was appointed the German federal government's minister of state and commissioner for culture and media in May 2025.
As a state minister, Wolfram Weimer is responsible for the German government's overall culture and media policy. Even though it is primarily the individual federal states and communities that are responsible for public cultural funding and the media in Germany, the federal government's responsibilities in these areas are also quite extensive. State minister Wolfram Weimer's duties therefore cover a wide spectrum that ranges from the legal framework conditions for the culture and media area to the funding of cultural institutions and projects of national importance and the collaboration with memorial sites that commemorate the victims of the Nazi terror regime as well as institutions that critically examine the history of the GDR.
After Wolfram Weimer's lecture, Theo Koll and the speaker will discuss further aspects of the event topic, which is subject to change according to the latest developments at this point in time or may focus specifically on these.
