Niedecken's BAP
BAP have been one of the established greats of the German-language rock music scene for over four decades. Although, 'German-language' doesn't quite hit the nail on the head, because what made the band, founded in 1976 and named after Niedecken's nickname 'dä Bapp', instantly popular was a genre that had not existed until then: 'Kölsch rock', with lyrics sung in Cologne's very distinctive local vernacular which, after the first few years of BAP, soon became well-known not only all over Germany but also elsewhere. With the gifted songwriter, lyricist and singer Wolfgang Niedecken, who is capable of bringing across his opinions in a sophisticated, sensitive and passionate way in his native dialect, at the helm, the idiosyncratic BAP have been a constant presence on the German-language music scene. In the foundation's anniversary year, the Neuhardenberg audience will be able to enjoy the Rhineland sounds of this West German rock band here in the Oderland four days after the performance of East German rock legend Pankow and their guests.
