Neuhardenberg Proms
For the first time, but undoubtedly not the last, the Neuhardenberg Proms will bring the lively concert atmosphere usually associated with London's Royal Albert Hall to the Neuhardenberg Castle park with a festive programme that combines classical music with the joys of summer and entertainment in the best sense of the word: the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg foundation has invited the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra to Neuhardenberg.
This young ensemble has been formed every year since 2006 and consists of participants of the Moritzburg Festival Academy, for which around 36 talented young musicians from all over the world are selected via an international invitation to apply. In a short time, the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra is built in the course of an intensive workshop under the artistic direction of the violinist Mira Wang. Besides orchestral works, the experienced Festival artists develop a varied chamber music repertoire with the young participants and give them important pointers. Led by the Festival's Spanish chief conductor Josep Caballé Domenech, the young musicians are ultimately given the opportunity to perform live in front of an audience in the form of various concert formats at the Moritzburg Festival and during guest performances. One of these takes place in Neuhardenberg, where they will be supported by two celebrated soloists: the cellist Jan Vogler and the Academy's artistic director Mira Wang.
Conductor and soloists
Jan Vogler is one of the great classical music stars of our times. His breathtaking career has led him around the globe several times and united him with some of the most important conductors and orchestras. He is in intense dialogue with contemporary composers and artists, as proven by the many premieres of works that were in part written exclusively for him. Jan Vogler has a close relationship with Neuhardenberg, thanks to his annual cello workshop as well as regular concerts in a wide range of different formations, and also his position on the foundation's Board of Trustees.
The violinist Mira Wang, who was born in China, is the director of the Moritzburg Festival Academy. She studied at Boston University, graduating with honours. Since then, she has guested with numerous orchestras in the USA, Europe and Asia, such as, for example, the Staatskapelle Dresden orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has performed at many international festivals. Mira Wang has been the artistic director of the exclusive 'Modelroom Musicales' series of chamber music events at the New York Yacht Club since 2005. She plays an 'ex-Joachim' Antonio Stradivari violin dating from 1708.
Josep Caballé Domenech, who hails from Catalonia, has been the chief conductor of the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra since 2019. His successful career has included, for example, being appointed conductor laureate by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra, a chief guest conductorship with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, and the positions of musical director and chief conductor of Staatskapelle Halle as well as the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá. He has an extensive concert and opera repertoire, and has worked with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, the BBC Philharmonic, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, various German radio orchestras and the Bamberg Symphony, as well as all leading Spanish orchestras.
