Collegium musicum Potsdam
symphony orchestra &
Ralf Benschu, saxophone
The Collegium musicum Potsdam symphony orchestra was established shortly after the end of the war in 1945. It is therefore the federal state of Brandenburg capital's oldest orchestra. However, this does not necessarily apply to its members. In the contrary, the wide age range of the over 75 musicians in total that belong to the orchestra, thereby also making it one of Brandenburg's largest, is responsible for its truly intergenerational approach to the works. The orchestra's repertoire includes works from the late Romantic period and contemporary orchestral works, but also works from the Baroque period and the era of the First Viennese School. The musicians also focus on works written by the Potsdam composers Gisbert Näther and Wolfgang Thiel, but also perform video game soundtracks. For the past few years, the orchestra's project Brandenburg-Brazil has encouraged an intercultural exchange between musicians from Brandenburg and Brazil.
The Neuhardenberg programme consists of seasonal music, in part arranged by the orchestra itself. To add to the sound and for musical inspiration, the chamber orchestration orchestra will be joined by the saxophonist Ralf Benschu, well-known to a wide audience thanks to his long-term membership of the band Keimzeit.
