Brandenburg Art Award 2022
The Brandenburgischer Kunstpreis ('Brandenburg Art Award') is one year younger than the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg foundation. This proves a certain level of stamina when it comes to its commitment to the supports of the visual arts in the region. The Märkische Oderzeitung newspaper and the foundation probably did not envisage this kind of longevity when they decided to cooperate on awarding an art prize for works created in Brandenburg in each of the categories of painting, graphic design and sculpture, and to host a major but by no means exhaustive exhibition of these works, and not only those that were awarded prizes. After the positive response to the first edition, others followed; what had initially been a 'short-term collaboration' later became permanent. Other partners have now joined the project. The Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung is responsible for its expansion through the addition of an important category: It has funded the prize in the photography category since 2018. The lifetime achievement award is sponsored by the Brandenburg State Premier; the federal state of Brandenburg's Minister of Science, Research and Culture awards an annual scholarship for the promotion of talented young artists.
By now, the exhibition within the scope of the Brandenburg Art Award has become a popular annual event that showcases what is currently happening on the local art scene. This year, it will be on show in the foundation's exhibition hall from early July to the end of August. The awards ceremony will be held at Neuhardenberg on 14 August by invitation only.
