Billy Cobham Band
After last year's visit from John McLaughlin, the next founding member of the legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra is now coming to Neuhardenberg: Billy Cobham. The Panama-born drummer is still considered the ultimate fusion drummer – no one else combines the aggressiveness of rock so logically and breathtakingly with the complexity of jazz. With his extravagant, in part Latin American inspired playing techniques, Billy Cobham has had a major influence on jazz-rock since the early 1970s. His debut album Spectrum is still one of the most important and influential jazz albums of all time. Not least due to the impact of his collaboration with Miles Davis, Cobham combines jazz elements with rock and psychedelia. For decades, he has shared the wide spectrum of a fascinating, characterful musician that ranges from subtle parts via highly complex sound structures to aggressive rock elements with his audience.
With his current band of four instrumentalists that are in perfect harmony with each other, Cobham has updated some of his pieces, including Spectrum classics such as Stratus and Red Baron, which shows that his music has lost none of its fascination and contemporariness to this day.
