The first part of the programme features texts by Brecht in counterpoint to Shostakovich's String Quartet No 4, which is as moving as it is harrowing, in view of the fact that it was written in 1948 under the impression of the anti-Semitism of the Stalin era and the accusation of 'formalist degeneracy and anti-democratic tendencies' made against the composer. In the second part, this is juxtaposed with Brecht's words, interwoven with songs by Kurt Weill and Hanns Eisler, which results in sensitive dialogues between light and dark, wit and bitterness, disillusionment and tenderness.

The great actor Angela Winkler will read Bertolt Brecht's texts and also – in the tradition of Lotte Lenya – perfect the evening with songs such as Surabaya Johnny and O Fallada, da du hangest. She will be accompanied by the renowned delian::quartett, well-known for programmes that are unconventional and also always cross the boundaries between the genres. The quartet certainly lives up to its name-giver: Apollo, god of the fine arts and companion of the Muses, also sometimes called Delos in reference to the place of his birth.
