2raumwohnung
The duo 2raumwohnung has contributed to a quarter of a century of German pop history. Many of their numerous albums made it into the charts and consistently attracted attention owing to their innovative arrangements, clever, sensitive lyrics and touching melodies – in short, theirs is a 'melancholically beautiful' music, to cite the title of one of their albums. This has made it possible for the duo to retain its scope for artistic creativity.
With bands such as Neonbabies, DÖF and Humpe & Humpe (the latter a collaboration with her sister Annette), Inga Humpe was a German New Wave icon back in the 1980s. Her partner Tommi Eckart is a music producer and composer; he started various bands and collaborated with Andreas Dorau from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.
Humpe and Eckart met in 1993. They produced some first collaborative titles under a pseudonym, initially for commercials for the cigarette brand Cabinet, for example, and for the launch of the euro. Later on, these titles also became popular songs in their own right, primarily thanks to them being aired by the radio channel Radio1.
From 2000 onwards, the two musicians made their collaboration official and called themselves 2raumwohnung, and under this name, as well as through their work as songwriters and producers, they became style-defining representatives of German-language electropop.
