Klaus Hoffmann has grown wings. No, don't worry, he is still with us here on Earth, but his new songs do soar a little higher, after all this time: away from the burdensome troubles here on the ground, from oppressive thoughts, from suffering and lies, from war and catastrophe. Not that he closes his eyes to all of this, but the songs on his new CD Flügel ('Wings') have the power to rise above all of this misery, and to look on the turmoils of our times with a kind of melancholy aloofness. Moody, mellowed with age and maybe a little wiser, at times brisk and demanding, Klaus Hoffmann leads us through his and our times, plays with his thoughts and emotions; sometimes, he also leads us down the garden path, but never maliciously, never deviously, at most mischievously, from time to time, always friendly and emphatic, and always in a way that instantly makes you realise: this artist has nothing left to prove to anyone, he is utterly self-aware and does not try to please anyone, everything is authentic and based on his own experiences. As he has been for 'what feels like the last 60 years', he will be accompanied, supported and sustained by Hawo Bleich on the grand piano and keyboards.
