Deutsches Filmwunder trifft deutsche Einheit
(German movie miracle meets reunited Germany)
Dieter Kosslick in conversation with Katrin Sass,
Wolfang Becker, Andreas Dresen and Axel Prahl
Moderated by: Hans von Trotha
Germany 2002/03. Wolfgang Becker wins not only German but also scores of international prizes for Good Bye, Lenin!, also for the script, as does Andreas Dresen for Grill Point, produced without a set script and filmed with a handheld camera. Same year – two films which surprisingly proved that Germany can do reunification, and German film-makers can do comedy. The critics and the audience were equally ecstatic, and the interest of the international market was soon also piqued. A German movie miracle. What had led to this miracle? How did these films become the films they are? Was it really such a miracle? And if it was – has the German film industry lost its impetus since then? Along with their directors, the stars of both of these successful films will discuss all of these questions.
