Atrin Madani has clearly conquered the jazz scene with his impressive voice and varied repertoire. The Berlin-based singer and son of Iranian immigrants has intensively focused on some of his predecessors, such as Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, Andy Williams or Tony Bennett. He pays homage to these masters not by copying them but by resolutely following his own path. On the basis of the sound aesthetics of such artists as Norah Jones, Diana Krall or Till Brönner, Madani has dedicated himself to a hand-picked selection of songs that have so far largely remained unsung in jazz and has thereby bridged the generation gap: this millennial approaches the songs of the boomers with respect, curiosity and a deep emotionality. His David Bowie, Coldplay or Nick Drake interpretations are simultaneously homages and new creations – carried by the conviction that jazz is certainly permitted to be moving. With his new album Timeless Reflections, he consistently continues his artistic development and starts a new chapter – more personal, international and even more defined by his own unique signature sound.
