Il Pomo d'Oro
One of Donna Leon's great passions is Baroque music, which motivated her to co-found the orchestra Il Pomo d'Oro in 2012, and to support it to this day. It dedicates itself to performing Baroque, classical and bel canto works in a way that is as authentic as it is dynamic. Led by Francesco Corti, Il Pomo d'Oro and the soprano Carlotta Colombo will perform works by the Venetian Baroque composer Barbara Strozzi (1619–1677). Strozzi is considered to have been one of the most productive of Venice's 17th century composers. Her mainly secular vocal works are characterised by great lyricism and a subtly critical analysis of the gender roles in her era.
Il Pomo d'Oro performs on important stages all over the world, and consists of proven historically informed performance practice experts. The ensemble is currently touring with the American star mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato to great success. It has won several important prizes such as the ECHO Classic, and has been working on a recording of all of Mozart's symphonies since 2022. Francesco Corti studied the organ, the harpsichord and conducting, and has been Il Pomo d'Oro's First Guest Conductor since 2018. The Baroque music expert gives concerts all over the world as a soloist and as a conductor. Carlotta Colombo has degrees in vocal performance and philosophy. She is a proven performer of opera, oratory and sacred music works from the Baroque period.
