Searching for William is a mix of concert and play, installation and audio drama on the trail of Shakespeare. Modern pop music is fused with Shakespeare's English into a multimedia performance. In a tour d'horizon, singer and actor Christian Friedel focuses on songs and on a selection of Shakespeare's famous monologues. We hear from Hamlet and Macbeth, as well as the witches, spirits and fools that people the world of the great poet and magical playwright. Together with the actors, the audience goes on a journey, listening to the voices of the past and discovering associations with today.
The sought-after actor Christian Friedel is an equally passionate musician. Together with four fellow musicians, he founded the 'Woods of Birnam' – named after the forest of the same name in Shakespeare's Macbeth. Sometimes excessive, at other times atmospherically dense, always with impressive sound and visual elements, their performance is as profound as it is stirring.
