Orchestra Baobab
Made in Sénégal
With a mix of Afro-Cuban style, international pop, traditional griot music and catchy melodies, this legendary band from West Africa first started to make its audiences dance in Senegal's capital Dakar – and soon afterwards all over the world – over 50 years ago. Established in 1970, the Orchestra Baobab is now an institution and a cornerstone of African music. Initially inspired by the Afro-Cuban music that was then popular in West Africa, Baobab soon developed its own inimitable style, which is a mix of African sounds, Latin American rhythms and timeless elegance. From their first golden era to their resounding comeback under Nick Gold, the founder of the Buena Vista Social Club, in the early 2000s, the band has constantly taken its own heritage further and has rocked generation after generation of fans with its hypnotic grooves.
Made in Sénégal is far more than a concert programme: it is a journey through various eras and regions, a love letter to Senegal, to the roots and the future of its music. From Dakar's intimate clubs to the world's greatest stages, the Orchestra Baobab has been there and done it all. However, one thing has always remained unchanged on its amazing journey: the timeless power and beauty of their music.
