Martin Stadtfeld
Baroque Colours
In the hands of Martin Stadtfeld, any composition becomes a deeply moving character piece that combines the essence of the music with that of its interpreter to provide new insights. His lodestar is Johann Sebastian Bach's music. The 'Goldberg Variations', which he learnt to play by heart in just a few days at the age of fifteen, marked the celebrated start of his recording career. Dozens of albums and numerous prizes later, Martin Stadtfeld is also one of the classical music stars most listened to globally in the streaming age, with 100 million clicks.
With his programme 'Baroque Colours', Martin Stadtfeld presents a varied palette of some extremely famous works of the baroque. Alongside wonderful little original pieces from composers such as Bach, Rameau and Handel, Martin Stadtfeld also treats us to unusual versions of some of his own favourite works for orchestra that he has arranged for the piano. The 'Summer' and 'Winter' movements from Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons', for example, can therefore be experienced in a completely new way – in the form of familiar, but surprisingly modern sounding piano pieces.
