Marialy Pacheco Trio
feat. Nils Wülker
Reload
Marialy Pacheco is not just the only world-class female Cuban jazz pianist; she is also a talented storyteller. Every note she plays has a meaning. Regardless of whether she makes her grand piano talk in full-bodied, rippling chords or whether she lets her fingers fly wildly across the keys, there is always an idea behind it, an experience. With her new programme Reload, Marialy Pacheco presents her most touching and mature work, which consists solely of her own compositions, apart from two Cuban standards. 'I wanted to extend my colour palette,' she says about the concept of this programme, which has also been released as an album. 'Here, my Cuban roots are growing towards Latin American traditions, and my influences from classical music.' The result is authentic, traditional and at the same time modern – a fresh fusion of jazz and Latin American music, which is not least also due to the two young Columbian musicians Juan Camilo Villa on bass and Miguel Altamar de la Torre on the drums. The concert is made special by one of the rare guest appearances of the German trumpeter Nils Wülker away from his own successful band.
