The Kammerakademie Potsdam (KAP) is the Brandenburg's state capital Potsdam local orchestra, and the resident orchestra of the Nikolaisaal venue. It is characterised by varied programmes and an absolute dedication to outstanding artistic quality. With this attitude, programmes that span four centuries of music history, and productive collaborations with many musical partners, the orchestra has gained a reputation that reaches far beyond Potsdam and Germany. Celebrated guest performances at the great German and European concert halls bear witness to the orchestra's quality.

Antonello Manacorda has been the KAP's artistic director since the 2010/11 season. Avi Avital is a passionate ambassador for his instrument, and one of the greatest mandolin players of our times. His wide spectrum also makes him a valued partner for the KAP, and the orchestra has therefore already collaborated with him for over a decade. The Neuhardenberg programme focuses on concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach that were originally marked as having been written for the violin or the harpsichord. Avi Avital himself arranged them for his instrument and a string orchestra. The Israeli composer Avner Dorman's concert for mandolin and string was written especially for the mandolin player.
