Juilliard String Quartet
Cavatina
The Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper called it a performance like from another star: fresh, passionate and with moments for eternity.
The Boston Globe called the Juilliard String Quartet (JSQ) 'the most important American quartet in history'. Established in 1946, it has now wowed its audiences all over the world with its precision and verve for three quarters of a century. In personnel terms, the New York quartet has meticulously renewed itself several times over, but it has always retained its breathtaking ensemble sound. In 2011, the quartet was the first classical music ensemble to receive a Grammy for its oeuvre, not least also in recognition of this continuity.
Besides its deep bond with the classics, the JSQ has also dedicated itself to the promotion of new works. The programme that it will perform in the Schinkel Church also underlines this. It unites two of Beethoven's great works with two studies which Jörg Widmann composed for the ensemble in the course of addressing the classic piece.
Each JSQ performance is a unique experience during which its four members unite their profound understanding and virtuosity with their insatiable curiosity with regard to the great string instrument literature.
