Jeff Lorber Fusion Trio
Space-Time
Jeff Lorber is a ground-breaking pianist, keyboarder, composer, producer and band leader, and one of the most important representatives of contemporary smooth and fusion jazz. As a trailblazing Fender-Rhodes pioneer, he is up there with Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample and Bob James. Musicians such as Joe Farrell, Chick Corea and Freddie Hubbard appreciated the inspiring collaboration with him. In 2018, he won a Best Contemporary Instrumental Album Grammy for his CD production Prototype. 'The whole thing was surreal, somehow,' the pianist recalls. 'After six nominations, it was pretty exciting to actually win the Grammy.' His follow-up album Space-Time, a kind of 'ultrasonic sound odyssey', is an homage to the pianist's love of science – he not only studied music, but also chemistry. Space-Time is the mature result of Jeff Lorber's intense collaboration with the long-standing other members of his Fusion Trio, the bassist Jimmy Haslip and the drummer Jost Nickel. Lorber says about the production: 'I feel blessed that I can spend my lifetime doing things like this, and in the company of such musicians. When you do amazing things together with wonderful people, it's easy to spread good vibes.' Enjoy some of these on a Sunday in November in Neuhardenberg's Schinkel Church.
