In Liebe, Eure Hilde
('From Hilde, with Love')
Berlin 1942. Hilde is in love. With Hans. Their passion often makes them forget the war and the danger: they are simply two young people at the beginning of their lives. Hilde admires her lover's courage. He moves in resistance circles. She herself is rather fearful, but takes part in the missions of a group that would later be called the 'Red Orchestra' with increasing courage. It is the most wonderful summer of her life. At the end of it, all of them are arrested. Hilde is eight months pregnant. She gives birth to her son in prison, and develops a strength no one would have expected of her.
The film, which celebrated its world premiere in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival 2024, is based on the true story of Hilde and Hans Coppi – played by Liv Lisa Fries and Johannes Hegemann – who were executed in Berlin-Plötzensee prison. The film is an almost timeless, profound love story about decency and resistance, intuition and civil courage, dignity and fear.
After the screening, Petra Gute will discuss the film with Andreas Dresen and Laila Stieler.
