Bill Murray,
Jan Vogler & Friends
New Worlds

Bill Murray – vocals, recital
Jan Vogler – cello
Vanessa Perez – piano
Mira Wang – violin

For the second time, the American Hollywood actor Bill Murray and the German cello star Jan Vogler have joined forces with their 'friends' to invest their respective skills in a joint programme that not only links music and literature but also unites the four continents from which the performers hail, as the quartet is completed by the violinist Mira Wang from China and Vanessa Perez from Venezuela at the piano. Murray says that 'when these four people meet, it's only a short hop between one continent and another.'

The result is a celebration of the great American culture that has so often influenced Europe and has thereby built bridges between the two continents. This, precisely, is what New Worlds is all about: the building of bridges at a time when bridges are being torn down. Texts by Hemingway, Miller, Whitman, Twain and other American literary greats meet the music of Bernstein, Gershwin, Bach, Beethoven and Shostakovich. Bill Murray and Jan Vogler convey an idea of the charm and attraction of the American values, but also of their deep rootedness in the various cultures of all continents which, together, have shaped that of the New World.

The performance by Bill Murray, Jan Vogler and their 'friends' in the Neuhardenberg Castle park is an intimate prelude to a spectacular return to Berlin next year, with details to be announced closer to the time.
