Shakespeare. Encounters
Monologues by famous Shakespeare protagonists and lyrical sonnets meet two great string quartets: Dmitri Shostakovich's eighth string quartet goes surprisingly well with the texts, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's revolutionary sixth string quartet becomes a momentous and profoundly emotional, galvanising companion in Shakespeare's world. Interwoven through a reciprocal interplay, the text and compositions project visual images of the universe of the Elizabethan poet William Shakespeare onto the stage. Ponderings on humankind, love and life embedded in sound develop a timeless poetic power. The words blend into the music as if they had found each other across the centuries.
The programme is a continuation of the unique collaboration between the renowned delian::quartett and the great actor Angela Winkler, whose epochal portrayal of Hamlet in Peter Zadek's 1999 staging still resonates to this day. delian::quartett is well-known for programmes that constantly cross the boundaries between genres and certainly lives up to its name-giver: Apollo, god of the fine arts and companion of the Muses, also sometimes called Delos in reference to the place of his birth.
