Alexej Gerassimez
& Omer Klein
Firebirds
The percussionist Alexej Gerassimez is as versatile as his collection of instruments is diverse. His repertoire ranges from classical and contemporary music to jazz and minimal music and, of course, all of the facets of his own compositions. He guests with internationally renowned orchestras, develops solo programmes, is an enthusiastic chamber musician and also performs with his percussion group. It is important to him to demonstrate the entire bandwidth of his diverse collection of instruments to his audience. Alexej Gerassimez therefore integrates not only the usual percussion and melodic instruments into his performance but also 'non-musical' objects such as brake discs, oil drums or marine propellers.
The New York Times described the music of Omer Klein as 'borderless', due to its organic adaptation of a wide range of different sources of inspiration. The productive performer and composer has released eight albums in his own name with over 100 original compositions.
In their joint composition Firebirds , Alexej Gerassimez and Omer Klein are exploring the associative clashing opposites of deterioration and becoming, taking one of the most multilayered works in the history of music as their inspiration and starting point: Stravinsky's The Firebird.
