The protagonists are two couples in their late thirties who are friends, trapped in their everyday lives in a place that is not exactly one of the world's most exciting cities: Frankfurt (Oder). Radio announcer Chris and his second wife Katrin no longer have much to say to each other; either in bed or elsewhere. His friend Uwe grafts so much at his hot dog stand that he forgets about his wife Ellen and their children. Ellen and Chris, who is desperately looking for a change, gradually become intimate. They are caught in flagrante, which abruptly energises all of them. The protagonists leave the ruts they were stuck in and question their places in life, and surprisingly, small miracles are possible, even in Frankfurt (Oder) – provided you believe in them.
