Max Raabe & Palast Orchester

Guten Tag, liebes Glück
(Good Day, Dear Happiness)

The press has called the singer Max Raabe 'an accomplished chronicler of Germany's musical heritage'. With his soft baritone and decidedly elegant outfits, he does not look like a copy but more like the resurrection of someone from the 1920 and 1930s. He and his Palast Orchester ingeniously interpret famous songs from that era by subtly varying them and thereby making them accessible to a contemporary audience. Max Raabe's own compositions and song lyrics perfectly capture the style, tone and feel of those 'roaring' times and their popular music, which was a unique combination of effortlessness and virtuosity.

'Heute ist ein guter Tag, um glücklich zu sein' ('Today is a good day to be happy') – this line from a song penned by Max Raabe has by now become something of a catchphrase in his native country. He wrote it for the song Guten Tag, liebes Glück ('Good Day, Dear Happiness') which has now also supplied the title for the current Max Raabe & his Palast Orchester programme – and which will, of course, also be performed at Neuhardenberg, together with other classic Max Raabe lyrics – such as 'Statt Cannes und Nizza / säß ich mit Pizza / viel lieber mit dir Hand in Hand' ('Forget Cannes and Nice, I'd much rather sit here, hand in hand with you, over a pizza') from the album Côte d'Azur.

This title, as well as titles from their most recent live album Max Raabe & Palast Orchester MTV Unplugged, which went gold, are skilfully interspersed with ever-popular and newly rediscovered songs from the 1920s and 1930s – classics which these days, no one can perform as authentically yet also as fresh on stage as the wonderful singer, lyricist and entertainer Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester.
