Spark Of Life

Marcin Wasilewski Trio feat. Joakim Milder

Marcin Wasilewski, piano

Slawomir Kurkiewicz, double bass

Michael Miskiewicz, drums

Joakim Milder, saxophone

In his home country of Poland, Marcin Wasilewski is currently the brightest star in the jazz sky. He has won over the discerning Polish audience with his composer’s instinct, his wealth of creative ideas, his musical intelligence and his uniqueness. However, his efforts have also earned him great international popularity, not least his collaboration with Manu Katché. Wasilewski heads a trio whose members are perfectly in harmony with each other. They have come a long musical way together. Wasilewski has known bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz since he was 15 years old, and for many years, drummer Michael Miskiewicz was a fellow member of the legendary Tomasz Stanko Quartet.

The ensemble is perfectly completed by the Swedish saxophonist Joakim Milder, who is considered a poet on his instrument and has been one of northern Europe’s most outstanding saxophonists for almost two decades. His unique technique makes his sound and style stand out from that of many of his colleagues.

Besides performing Wasilewski’s beautiful compositions, they dare to play some unusual cover versions including Sting’s Message in a Bottle as well as Komeda’s Sleep Safe And Warm from the soundtrack of Rosemary’s Baby. With this material, the quartet not only adds a vital spark to its performance but turns it into a musical firework.
