A musical fairy tale after Sergei Prokofiev

JazzBaltica All Star Band
Narrator: Hella von Sinnen
Director and arranger: Tini Thomsen

You can have lots of adventures in the garden and on the meadow, but many dangers also lurk there. You might fall off a tree or into a pond, or a wild animal might happen to come along – like a big, bad wolf, for example. So what do you do if you meet one? The famous Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev came up with a story that is all about this sort of difficult situation, and a brave little boy called Peter who manages to catch a wolf thanks to his cunning and cleverness with the help of his animal friends. Prokofiev allocated a specific instrument and melody to each of the various characters in his musical fairy tale, thereby also introducing the listener to a wide range of different musical instruments.

The saxophonist, clarinettist and composer Tini Thomsen’s rearranged version of Sergei Prokofiev’s classic musical fairy tale features parts for a saxophone, double bass, drums and many other instruments. The JazzBaltica All Star Band, founded by Nils Landgren for the northern German jazz festival of the same name, performs Prokofiev’s music as an extremely groovy jazz score, and the presenter and actor Hella von Sinnen tells the exciting story with plenty of verve. Everyone knows that it all ends well, of course: Even the wolf escapes more or less unharmed.
