Luciano Berio, Naturale for viola, percussion and pre-recorded vocals: Sicilian folk songs
as well as works by Max Reger
and Johann Sebastian Bach

Tabea Zimmermann is one of the most popular and renowned performers of our times. Her listeners and musical partners appreciate her deep musical understanding as well as the naturalness of her performance. She is currently considered the world’s leading violist, thanks to not only her excellent training but also to the unflagging enthusiasm with which she communicates her understanding of the works and her love for the music to the audience. She performs regularly with the world’s most renowned orchestras and conductors as a soloist at the most important international concert venues.

The young percussionist Ni Fan can already look back on many award-winning concerts. She has performed with famous orchestras and ensembles as a soloist and has collaborated with such important artists as Biao Li and Evelyn Glennie. She also regularly gives solo concerts in Germany and Asia.

They will be performing the solo suites for viola by Max Reger and Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as Luciano Berio’s fascinating composition Naturale, which was created in 1985 as a ‘dance play’ for the Italian dance ensemble Aterballetto. Berio uses Sicilian folk song themes, with the arrangements interrupted by the voice of an Italian folk singer which the composer himself recorded live in Palermo. The piece lives off the contrast between the carefully refined folk song motifs and the rough, authentic voice of the Sicilian singer.
