The ‘Masterclass Student Masters’ series of events started in 2009. It is funded by the German Savings Banks Association. Classical music scene stars work with extremely talented young musicians, all of whom are former winners of ‘Jugend musiziert’, Germany’s annual national competition for young classical musicians. In Neuhardenberg , Xavier de Maistre, one of the best-known harpists of our times, and his students will be playing a concert which premiered at the Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival in July.

The harp tends to be a rarely used instrument in chamber music. Encounters with its fantastic tonal potential, which the harp virtuoso Xavier de Maistre knows how to exploit to the fullest, are therefore always a surprising experience in this intimate setting. At only 24 years old, Xavier de Maistre was the first French national to join the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra; since 2010, he has concentrated fully on his solo career. It has been shaped by his collaborations with many important artists, including Kristjan Järvi, Riccardo Muti, Sir Simon Rattle and Lionel Bringuier, at the world’s greatest concert halls. Xavier de Maistre is only too willing to pass his knowledge on to the next generation. He is now a professor at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and regularly holds master classes, for example at the Juilliard School in New York. The artist plays a Lyon & Healy harp.

His six co-performers have all been trained exceedingly well and have been top-ranked at ‘Jugend musiziert’, Germany’s annual national competition for young classical musicians, and other competitions. Some of them have already gained some first experience in working under great conductors and with famous orchestras.
