“Amazing just how beautiful instruction manuals can sound if they are sung. Erdmöbel’s new album is full to the brim with brilliant lyrical ready-made works of art and catchy refrains.”

(Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)

Is it even possible to turn instruction manuals, press releases, Twitter feeds, a TV presenter’s announcement or the words to a self-made video on YouTube into sophisticated pop songs? Erdmöbel proves that this is indeed possible, and they are probably the only band on the German-language music scene whose attempts at this are definitely worth hearing. The title of their latest album Hinweise zum Gebrauch (‘Instructions for Use’) already hints at this lyrical recycling of text material with a dubious initial purpose. Once again, Markus Berges proves that he is a brilliant lyricist capable of distorting the original material in true Erdmöbel fashion in order to then turn it into humorous and bizarre rhymes. This perfect combination of lyrics, melodies, arrangements and Markus Berges’ inimitable voice results in what this band has reliably delivered on a regular basis for the past 25 years: Sophisticated feel-good songs that not only make you laugh but also make you think – a feast for anyone that doesn’t merely want to consume entertainment but also wants to be entertained as someone with a mind of their own. In any case, Neuhardenberg simply had to finally invite Erdmöbel to perform here as it is mentioned in one of their songs – so the relationship is already quite an established one.
