You could refer to Branford Marsalis and Kurt Elling appearing together on one stage as a kind of jazz summit meeting. Both are unrivalled world stars in their metier; a joint performance promises to be a memorable musical experience.

The saxophone player Branford Marsalis is the most well-known scion of a famous New Orleans dynasty of musicians. He is a master in the fusion of styles and influences, from jazz, blues and funk to classical music projects, and has performed with such renowned fellow musicians as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and Herbie Hancock. His collaborations with Sting, Tina Turner, Grateful Dead and Youssou N’Dour speak for his open-mindedness when it comes to art, and his enthusiastic willingness to experiment. After his virtuoso solo performance in the Schinkel Church last year, Branford Marsalis now returns with his excellent quartet.

Kurt Elling has been called the most outstanding vocalist of our times, and not just by the New York Times. Impressive above all is of course his distinctive baritone, which spans four octaves. However, intelligent lyrics and a wide range of styles are also trademarks. He does bebop heads as well as he does blues and beat poetry. In his interpretations of classic jazz standards, he combines crooning elements with abstract vocal improvisations. The list of famous partners he has worked with is also long and impressive. Besides many others, it includes Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny and Wayne Shorter. His joint performance with Branford Marsalis in Neuhardenberg looks set to be an experience that will be extraordinary in many different ways.
