Brandenburg Art Award

Exhibition

under the aegis of the Brandenburg State Premier
The photography prize is funded by Ostdeutscher Sparkassenverband.

Brandenburg has long since been a popular or indeed the preferred choice for artists; many of them appreciate the fact that live/work spaces are still available and affordable here, and that they can live in the country yet still be close to Berlin. Over the years, Neuhardenberg has also become an established venue for the arts in Brandenburg and beyond, not least also due to the Brandenburgischer Kunstpreis (Brandenburg Art Award) regional arts prize, which has been jointly awarded by the Märkische Oderzeitung newspaper and the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg since 2004 and is always accompanied by a major exhibition.

Since the start of the Brandenburgischer Kunstpreis competition, 3,133 artists have submitted their works for consideration. Not only the number of submissions but also the level of public interest has steadily increased. In the summer of 2019, the prizes in the categories painting, graphic design and sculpture will be awarded for the sixteenth time. The prize in the photography category funded by Ostdeutscher Sparkassenverband in order to intentionally make the Brandenburg Art Award available to a further group of artists will be awarded for the second time. In addition, Dr Dietmar Woidke, the Brandenburg State Premier and patron of the Brandenburgischer Kunstpreis, will present a lifetime achievement award to an artist within the scope of the Brandenburg Art Award presentations, and Dr Martina Münch, the federal state of Brandenburg’s Minister of Science, Research and Culture, will award a scholarship for the promotion of talented young artists. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue.
