Brandenburg Art Award
Brandenburg Art Award, sponsored by the Märkische Oderzeitung newspaper
and the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg foundation
under the aegis of the Brandenburg State Premier
The photography category prize is being sponsored by Ostdeutscher Sparkassenverband.
The Brandenburgischer Kunstpreis has been awarded to local artists who have made outstanding contributions to the arts since 2004; the prize-winning entries are always shown in an accompanying exhibition at Schloss Neuhardenberg.
In the summer of 2018, the Märkische Oderzeitung newspaper and the Stiftung Schloss Neuhardenberg foundation will be awarding prizes in the categories painting, graphic design and sculpture for the fifteenth time; Dr Dietmar Woidke, the Brandenburg State Premier, sponsors the lifetime achievement award and Dr Martina Münch, the federal state of Brandenburg’s Minister of Science, Research and Culture, will be awarding a scholarship to a talented young artist. In 2018, a prize will also be awarded for the first time in the photography category in order to equally honour this important art form, which the German Savings Banks Association has had a particular interest in for many years. The Ostdeutscher Sparkassenverband is the sponsor of the prize in this new, additional category.
It is aimed at encouraging yet more participants to submit their work for the Brandenburg Art Award. Last year, more than 260 Brandenburg-based artists submitted selected works, including numerous young artists who had not taken part in this long since well-established competition before. This increasing interest not least proves that these arts awards have not lost their energising effect, despite the fact that they have now been awarded for the past fifteen years, and illustrates the diversity and liveliness of the Brandenburg art scene. During his speech at last year’s prize giving ceremony, the Brandenburg State Premier Dr Dietmar Woidke emphasised the fact that many creative people can now be found in Brandenburg.
