Antje Weithaas and the Kammerakademie Potsdam

Antje Weithaas, violin and leader

Kammerakademie Potsdam

Works by Witold Lutosławski, Karl Amadeus Hartmann and Franz Schubert

Experts consider Antje Weithaas to be one of the best violinists in the world. Her concerts with Europe’s most important orchestras, her CDs and her achievements as a conducting soloist have earned her an enthusiastic following. With her musical intelligence and her matchlessly confident performance, she infuses every single detail in the score with boundless energy. Her charisma and stage presence are enthralling but do not eclipse the piece. Besides Mozart’s, Beethoven’s and Schumann’s major concertos as well as new works such as Jörg Widmann’s violin concerto, her broad concert repertoire also includes modern classics such as Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Gubaidulina as well as rarely performed violin concertos such as Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s.

The Kammerakademie Potsdam (KAP) is based in Brandenburg’s state capital Potsdam and the Nikolaisaal’s resident orchestra. Musically versatile, the orchestra also embraces new music. With a performance style that is as historically well-informed as it is contemporary, the KAP and its numerous renowned musical partners offer a varied repertoire ranging from the baroque to the modern. Antonello Manacorda has been the KAP’s artistic director since the 2010/11 season. The orchestra’s production calendar is completed by the Potsdam Winter Opera, a wide range of different educational offers, chamber concerts and guest performances.
