When his debut album was released in 2013, Andreas Ottensamer was immediately celebrated as a shooting star. The press called his sound “well-rounded and voluminous, with a spectacular presence”. The Viennese clarinet player, who has also won renowned competitions as a cellist and pianist, comes from an Austrian-Hungarian family of musicians. He gained first orchestra experiences as a substitute in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and as a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. He broke off his studies at Harvard University in the USA in 2009 when he was offered a scholarship at the Berliner Philharmoniker orchestra’s academy. He is now the famous ensemble’s solo clarinettist. Ottensamer also performs concerts as a soloist and chamber musician all over the world. He has collaborated with artists such as Murray Perahia, Leif Ove Andsnes, José Gallardo, Leonidas Kavakos, Janine Jansen and Yo-Yo Ma.

“Without a doubt, the ‘Schumanns’ are one of the best quartets in the world”, the Süddeutsche Zeitung concluded when reviewing the chamber music ensemble that is named not after the composer of the same name but for the surname of the three founder brothers. The Schumann Quartett has reached the point where anything is possible because they are willing to take risks. Musical partners such as Sabine Meyer, Menahem Pressler, Albrecht Mayer, Kit Armstrong, Edgar Moreau, Anna Lucia Richter and obviously also Andreas Ottensamer fervently appreciate the confidence and exceptional quality of this ensemble.
