Nicola Conte is a world-famous and highly acclaimed producer of exquisite jazz albums; he also performs on stage as a DJ, guitarist and band leader. A songwriter and arranger with classical music training, the style-defining jazz avant-gardist has been shaking the scene up since the early 1990s. His home town of Bari in southern Italy, which he calls ‘a true cultural melting pot’, is one of the sources of inspiration for his innovative creative output. Another source is his deep reverence for the music of the 1950s and 1960s, which in turn was probably inspired by a passion he has pursued since his earliest youth: record collecting. His studio, which relies almost exclusively on analogue equipment such as ‘real tape recorders, old amplifiers and microphones’, also reflects this affinity with vinyl. He became known to a wider audience when he added his own version, which fuses Brazilian bossa nova themes with Italian film music from the 1960s, to the acid jazz of the late 1980s.
This extremely creative musician will be coming to Neuhardenberg with a seven-piece band that features not only his guitars but also a piano, bass, drums and percussion instruments, a female vocalist as well as a saxophone and a flute. The band is likely to deliver the ultimate in amazing sounds, considering it is fronted by a sound freak like Conte.
